A2 = area of the upper portion

Let us see an example 

Volume= H/3 (A1+A2+√(A1 x A2)

A1= 5 x 3 = 15 sqm

A2 =0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25 sqm

H = 0.5

Now volume = 0.5/3 x (15+0.25+√(15 x 0.25)

= 0.167 x (15.25+1.95)

= 0.167 x 17.20

= 2.87 m3
